Make a Compost Bin!
Compost is rich in nutrients and can be used for all your planting needs. Studies have shown that compost used as mulch, or mixed with the top one-inch layer of soil, can also help prevent some plant diseases, including some of those that cause damping of seedlings. Often compost is made using soil microorganisms and worms. That’s using living things as a tool (a.k.a. biotechnology)! Find directions on how to make your own compost at the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Web site.
