In 1942, separate hobby groups were developed for African American children. Special interest hobby groups such as the bird feeder's club had long been part of the activities at the Children's Museum. By 1944, over 9,000 children were members of the Museum. The Parry House became the Museum's new home in 1946. Some of the first exhibits in the new location were displays about Indians, China, Holland, Eskimos, and the Arctic. The rare toy Marklin "Grand Carrousel" was acquired by the museum at this time.
