In 1990 the museum opened The Eli Lilly Center for Exploration (CFX),
a gallery experience just for teenagers that offered youth the opportunity to
explore themes such as the environment and the law in a space full of tools
and materials. The first "Jolly Days" winter holiday celebration was
held in 1992. A slide was added later to add to the holiday merriment.
1992 was the same year the museum opened Rex's Lending Center, the first of
it's kind, that enabled visitors to borrow books, video tapes and collections
objects from the Museum. The CineDome, Science Works, and a temporary
collection of Calder's Art, the first exhibition by a major artist in
a children's museum, opened in 1996.
