The Log Cabin was acquired in 1961. A new addition was added to the Museum and the Transportation Gallery opened in 1962. The Children's Museum Guild sponsored the first "Haunted House" fund-raiser in 1964. The following year, the Polar Bear arrived-on loan, and the Reuben Wells locomotive was loaned to the Museum in 1967, to be installed in 1968. By 1968, annual attendance reached 166,000. 43,500 of these were school children. The experimental aerobatic airplane "Li'l Chip" was displayed in the Transportation Gallery in 1969.
