The Mystery of the Golden Cube

Golden cubeLuster
Every mineral's surface looks different, but there are several general ways that a mineral reflects light. Click on the kind of luster that you think our golden cube has!

Metallic luster (galena) Glassy luster (quartz)   Adamintine (diamond) Pearly luster (talc)
Metallic luster looks like metal, of course. A glassy luster is called vitreous. A plastic-like luster is called resinous. Adamantine luster is brilliant, as with this diamond. Pearly luster has a shimmery appearance, like a pearl. Silky luster has a soft look, just like silk.
