What's the biggest fossil in your collection?
This fossil slab of the Borden Sea Delta is by far the largest specimen
in the science collection of The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. It is actually
a remnant of an ancient marine environment. Well over 300 million years ago,
in what is now central Indiana, there was a shallow sea teaming with life. Some
of the creatures within this sea have been remarkably preserved though the ages
and help us learn more about ancient life on earth. In this piece of the sea's
delta, you can see many different animals like crinoids, coral, brachiopods
and seastars.
