The Holidays Arrive at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis!

We might not yet be dashing through the snow, but the holidays have arrived at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis! Celebrate the holiday season at The Children’s Museum with the return of seasonal favorites such as Jolly Days Winter Wonderland, visits with Santa, and the ever-popular Yule Slide.

Santa's Big ArrivalSanta’s Big Arrival – Nov. 25, 8:30-10 a.m.
The holiday season officially begins at The Children’s Museum with Santa’s Big Arrival! Starting at 8:30 a.m., visitors are invited to explore the Jolly Days and FROGS exhibits, and take part in face-painting and other holiday activities in the museum’s Sunburst Atrium. One lucky member child will accompany Santa down the Yule Slide at 9:50 a.m. to officially kick off the holidays at the museum. A free youth with the purchase of an adult admission is available on tickets purchased before 10 a.m. when the entire museum opens.

Museum Store Black Friday discount – Nov. 25, 8:30-10 a.m.
The Museum Store will be offering a Black Friday 30 percent discount on all purchases made in the store between 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. While shopping, be sure to check out the 2011 list of Kid-Tested, Kid-Approved toys for gift ideas. Yule SlideJolly Days Winter Wonderland – Nov. 25-Jan. 8, 2012
The day after Thanksgiving, the annual Jolly Days Winter Wonderland exhibit will open for another holiday season. Visitors to the annual Jolly Days exhibit will take part in a number of seasonal favorites including skating in their socks on an indoor “pond,” climbing and sliding on the Snow Castle, trying their luck at “ice” fishing, and pretend-baking holiday goodies in the Tradition Kitchen. For many visitors, a highlight of their trip to Jolly Days includes a visit and photo with Santa who will be waiting to hear the wishes of young museum visitors.
Jolly Days is presented by Fifth Third Bank and supported by Barnes & Thornburg LLP and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent.

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz – various dates, Nov. 25-Jan. 8, 2012
The classic tales from The Wizard of Oz continue in Lilly Theater! Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Wizard as they experience new adventures in strange new lands. Dorothy once again finds herself far from home, and it will take wit, friendship, and magic to get her back where she belongs. SpaceQuest® Planetarium – Nov. 25-Jan. 8, 2012
Visit The Children’s Museum’s SpaceQuest® Planetarium for our special offerings this holiday season! Cosmic Canopy reveals how to find stars and planets in the Indiana night sky. Season of Light takes you on a special journey through the winter holidays and its many cultural traditions.  Go to childrensmuseum.org/planetarium to see the full list of show times.

Dino Digs – Nov. 25
Beginning Nov. 25, The Children’s Museum’s popular dinosaur digs will go on sale to the general public. This summer, your family can go along on a real dinosaur dig in South Dakota and help museum paleontologists search for fossils buried in the Earth. And due to popular demand, new for 2012, an adult dig will also be offered to the general public. Learn more at childrensmuseum.org.

Target Free Family Night: Toys and Traditions – Dec. 6, 4-8 p.m.
Children and their families can discover The Children’s Museum’s rich collection of holiday toys during this free admission evening. Sponsored generously by Target, the first Thursday of each month The Children’s Museum opens free of charge from 4-8 p.m.

Christmas Eve Free Admission – Dec. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
In celebration of the season, The Children’s Museum presents a free admission day on Christmas Eve from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Children are invited to visit Jolly Days to get in those last-minute requests with Santa before he leaves for his big night!

Water ClockCountdown to Noon – Dec. 31, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Families are invited to participate in the excitement of an early countdown by celebrating the New Year with a Water Clock countdown to Noon! Activities will begin at 10 a.m. with an exciting countdown taking place in the Sunburst Atrium at a reasonable hour for the younger members of the family.
