2009 Martin Luther King Jr.
Essay Contest Winners

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.On Thursday, May 7, the winners of the 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest were announced at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. The contest was facilitated by IASP – The Indiana Association of School Principals. The Educational Leadership department at Ball State University generously provided funding for the student awards. Students from around the state were presented with their award during a special awards ceremony in the museum’s The Power of Children: Making a Difference exhibit.

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest is open to all Indiana students in grades 6-12. Junior Division (6-8 graders) and Senior Division (9-12 graders) awards are given for first through third place winners. Essays were limited to 450 words and were judged on the basis of originality, clear connection between the quote and the issue selected, use of supporting examples or evidence, organization and clarity of composition in spelling, punctuation and grammar.
