SciencePort

 

SciencePort® consists of online activities for families and school groups that can be accessed at home or school; staff-led investigation activities at the museum; and follow-up activities and resources used at home or back in the classroom.

Visitors participate via the museum Web site or in the SciencePort® HQ located in ScienceWorks.

SciencePort® participants exercise free choice in when they learn, where they learn and what they learn.

 Registration is required for school groups.

Hours Available Daily

SciencePort headquarters is open to visitors Sunday through Saturday for investigations. Hours vary, so please check gallery postings for times. SciencePort is located on level 4 in the Science Works gallery at the top of the stairwell in the Construction Zone.

The museum's wind tunnel cart is part of SciencePort program and is available from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. outside of the ScienceWorks gallery on select days.

Ongoing Programs

The wind tunnel cart is available on select days from 10:30am.-11:30am outside of the ScienceWorks gallery on level 4. Due to field trips during the school year, the wind tunnel cart may be unavailable on Thursday mornings. Ask concierge for details.

 

 


 

Flight School Module

CSI: Flight Adventures

Flight Adventures is a SciencePort investigation with hands-on flight experiments!  You will build a parachute and conduct several tests, learn about some of the forces of flight with paper rockets, analyze plane parts under a microscope, and learn how to be a pilot using our online flight schools.  SciencePort also provides a wind tunnel cart for visitors to explore the science of flight. This can be found in the sunburst atrium from 10:30am.-11:30am. Click on the Flight Adventures icon to play our online flight school.

 


Archaeology Challenge

Do the Archaeology Challenge

Explore the mysteries of archaeology with Annie Archaeologist. Help Annie as she explores a virtual archaeological site where artifacts from the past lie buried. Learn the process that archaeologists use to excavate and preserve artifacts. You could earn a real Apprentice Archaeologist Certificate!

Plant Life Cycle

The Plant Life Cycle (Grades 1-3)

Explore plant life cycles with Brassica rapa, a plant that will go from seed to seed pods in 40 days. Teachers will build a plant grow kit at the museum and then take it back to the classroom.

Students will be able to observe the complete life cycle of a plant, including germination, pollination, and seed development.

Visit SciencePort and participate in plant Investigation

Health House Investigation

Health House Investigation is an online SciencePort® experience that engages preschoolers and early readers (grades K–2) in learning about health. "Teeth Rex" and his friends guide children though fun, interactive games and activities about nutrition, active play, and healthy habits. An online journal helps families track their daily healthy choices. Presented by Health Care Excel.
