The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Awarded
$150,000 Grant for “Global Perspectives” Exhibit
U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar was notified that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has awarded The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis a $150,000 grant to create an immersive exhibit experience called “Global Perspectives.”
“Many educational activities and community programs in Indiana benefit as a result of support from the IMLS, and I congratulate The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on their proposed ‘Global Perspectives’ exhibit,” said Lugar. “Exposing students to new languages and cultures gives them a fuller sense of their place in the world and advances peace and democracy.”
“Global Perspectives,” a permanent exhibit scheduled to open in 2008, will help children and families discover needs and concerns that are shared by people and cultures around the world. The 10,000-square-foot exhibit will include a cultural immersion experience featuring a new culture every two or three years as well as five other areas dedicated to language and communications, living spaces, celebrations, the market place, and the environment. “Global Perspectives,” which will reach up to 20 million children and their families over the next 20 years and feature objects from the museum’s 50,000-piece Caplan Collection of Folk, Fantasy and Play and from its world collection.
IMLS received 414 applications for the Museums for America grant program. From those applications, 158 projects will be funded.
