The Children's Museum of Indianapolis Acquires
an Extraordinary Star Wars™ Toy Collection!

WHO/WHAT:

Thirty years ago, an entire generation began an unparalleled journey that began with the now famous line, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The thrill of the journey and the love for the 1977 film has never waned. Just in time for the 30th anniversary, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has acquired a 5,000+ piece Star Wars™ toy collection from local private collector Randy Barker.

At three years old Barker saw the original film, was fascinated with its epic battles and legendary characters and began collecting toys.  “My parents collected Hummel figurines so I was familiar with collecting and really enjoyed the process.  By the time I was eighteen my dream was to open my own museum so that other fans could see the collection,” Barker said.

He collected toys in pairs so that he could keep one set boxed and display the other in mini-dioramas. His love for the action figures, games, comic packs, and one of his favorite items – a life-sized Darth Maul overflowed from one room to two.  It was time to realize the dream of having others see the items he so patiently collected through the years and The Children’s Museum was the perfect place.

Randy says, “It will be strange not to see the collection every day and I’ll miss it.  But I’m glad that so many fans will be able to come to The Children’s Museum to see it.”A collection of this magnitude could take several years to catalogue. Visitors to the museum will get a sneak preview before the Museum’s collection department begins the extensive process of cataloguing and photographing it.

WHEN:
Saturday, June 2 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE:
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 N. Meridian St.
