Science is all around you
Marvel at the inner workings of nature, the structure of human creations, and the forces that bind all of this together. Dedicated to the physical sciences, ScienceWorks features six areas.
Observe a real Indiana fresh water pond and get your hands wet on an interactive watershed table. Pretend you're an earthworm as you crawl through the "dirt" and explore the habitats of 12 different underground animals.
Rise to the challenge on the 20-foot Rock Wall with three distinct climbing paths. Work as a family team as adults help support children on a belay.
Rock Wall is offered on select days, including weekends and school holidays, and special free tickets are needed. Please check gallery monitor for ticket distribution and climbing times.
Explore form, function, design, and simple machines. Move different materials from one point to another using basic engineering principles.
Roll up your sleeves and get your hands wet! Explore fluid motion, buoyancy, surface tension, and other physical science principles. Change the flow of the 30-foot winding creek and experiment with water levels.
Learn important lessons about nutrition and active play. Grab a hula hoop or jump rope and get moving!
Biotechnology Learning Center
Witness the hands-on lab activities and observations that give future scientists insight on how plant biotechnology affects our world. Explore plant hybridization, view plant cells through the microscope, extract DNA from fruit, and more.
SciencePort® consists of online activities for families and school groups that can be accessed at home or school; staff-led investigation activities at the museum; and follow-up activities and resources used at home or back in the classroom. SciencePort is located upstairs on the second level of ScienceWorks. Come do some hands-on science!
