Before Your Visit
Talk about heroes, both real and make believe. Ask students to list characters -- real or imaginary -- who are important in our culture. Who do you see on magazine covers, television? Which characters -- real and imaginary -- have been made into toys?
Make a list of heroes. Ask students to vote for, or place stars beside the names of the characters most important to them.
No matter where this exhibits travels in this country, American students will identify similar characters they have seen through the television, movies and print media. These were the sources for Warhol's work.
