PERSONAL ADORNMENT

People all over the world wear special things, like clothing, hats, and jewelry, to make themselves look stylish. These things are made of everything from bone to feathers to gold to shell to teeth! Can you imagine wearing any of the following things for a special occasion?

In many different parts of Africa, materials from animals are used to make things to decorate the human body. They are worn to make a person look attractive and important, but also to tell a story about the person or a culture. In many African cultures, fish have a special meaning. A fish called the "lung fish" can breathe in and out of water. Because of this ability, some people of West Africa believe it can travel between the worlds of life and death. Fish are also important because they provide food and income for people who live next to water.
