Goals & Objectives Exhibit Description Main Message with Science Standard Objectives

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

1. To create a traveling exhibition that informs the public about bones; the science of bones, maintenance of healthy bone structures, treatment of diseases related to bones, and the cultural/artistic uses of bones.
Provide information and activities that help visitors understand that bone is living, growing tissue.
Provide information and activities that reinforce the need for visitors to take responsibility for their own bone health.
Utilize technology in a variety of ways throughout the exhibit to send visitors the message that the advancement of technology has helped us understand bones.

Share examples of and information about how bones have been used through time in cultural and artistic ways.

2. To create an exhibit on bones that supports curriculum in the formal education arena.
Provide an innovative website.
Provide teachers with a curriculum packet to enhance this experience.
Determine the content and activities for this exhibit/experience by utilizing the Indiana Science Proficiencies and National Science Standards as "filters".

Insure that the exhibit experience generates interest in science and technology careers, especially girls and minorities.

3. To create an exhibit on bones by partnering with organizations and individuals in the community that have a strong commitment to the public in relation to providing information and assistance in maintaining bone health and in the treatment of bone disease.
Consult with a variety of doctors from the community who work in
the field of bone treatment and/or research.
Consult with staff from other organizations in the community, including Eli Lilly & Co., the National Institute for Fitness and Sport, Ortho Indy and The Ruth Lilly Health Education Center and others to provide schools with healthy lifestyle information.
