CONCEPT STATEMENT:

BONES - more than the scary skeleton hanging from a door on Halloween. The bones in our bodies are living, growing tissue. Throughout our lives, bone is constantly renewed through a special process called remodeling. It is very important to keep our bones strong and healthy and maintain this process in a balance that builds bone mass. Human skeletons share many similarities and differences with those of other vertebrate animals. Bones have also played an important role in cultures around the world.

The BONES exhibition, through a variety of exciting, interactive opportunities, helps to create an awareness of: the fundamentals of bone biology, how modern technology provides us with ways to help keep our bones healthy and how bones have found their way into the art, music and literature of people around the world.

Although focused on the core subject of bones, the exhibit and collateral support materials explore diverse content areas to engage the myriad interests visitors bring to the experience while providing abundant content to support science curriculum.
