Visitors begin their adventure in BONES by moving through a covered bridge entrance where they see images of people that change to skeletons on the wall of the bridge This entrance serves to help visitors begin to understand they are a part of the exhibit by bringing their bones into the exhibit.

The BONES exhibition is intended to help children and the adult members of their family understand the need to have healthy bones and that they can play in role in keeping this living, growing tissue healthy. Important messages include keeping bones strong and healthy by eating a diet rich in calcium and getting plenty of exercise.

The BONES exhibition helps convey the important message of maintaining a healthy lifestyle though fun and educational, interactive and whole body experiences. The exhibit demonstrates, through these opportunities, the consequence of lack of enough calcium and daily exercise, bone loss.

BONES consists of a variety of places where one can find out about the fundamentals of bone biology. The Home, Fitness Center, Superstore, Medical Center, and Zoo are places where different perspectives of the skeletal system, both biological and cultural, can be investigated.

BONES technology is included throughout the exhibit to help demonstrate advancements in understanding of bone and bone health. Technology is not dealt with separately in order to maintain a focus on the topic of the exhibit, bones.
