Clown Pulled by a Donkey
Japan, circa 1955
Watch me wiggle. The wound-up spring that makes me wiggle is inside the donkey. It makes the tail, which the clown is hanging onto, go back and forth.

High Wire Unicycle Clown
Germany, circa 1940
Kids could hold a string or fishing line and let the clown ride back and forth. The wheel has a groove in it so the clown doesn't fall off.
| The clown keeps his balance because the two poles have lead weights on them. Since these lead weights are lower than the center of gravity (the wheel) and outweigh the clown, he doesn't fall off. |

Two Clowns on a Railway Handcar
USA, circa 1930
Up and down the two clowns pump the handcar. In real life the power is from the people pumping the lever. But in this toy, a spring is wound up inside the car.

| Look for the words "Hoky Poky" on the side of the car. Do you know of a famous children's song by that name? |
