Gallery Activities

Special programs abound during the museum's Circus Summer. In June, July and August, you can experience the wonders of the circus through hands-on activities. Check out the marquee in the exhibits to find out which activities will be taking place when you visit. There will be a limited number of participants for some activities and those will be ticketed.

Now We're Clowning Around – Find out how clowns have been entertaining visitors to the circus for hundreds of years. Learn more about clowns and their crazy antics and attire. Learn how to become a circus clown.

Juggling All the Acts — Are clowns, magicians or jugglers your favorite circus performers? Visitors are encouraged to explore which one would make them want to join the circus. Explore the secrets that make circus performers so special.

Balancing Act – Welcome to the world of balance! Test your abilities while walking a straight line with your eyes closed. Find out what it takes to walk on stilts. Are you up to the challenge?

Be a Clown – If you were a clown in the circus, what kind would you be? There are different types of clowns that travel with the circus. Learn all about them and make your own special clown masks to take home.

Here Comes the Parade – Join a parade line of elephants, goofy clowns, or growling lions. The only limit is your imagination.

Circus Storytelling – Celebrate the circus with a circus tale. Listen to a story about a wacky circus and then participate in creating your very own circus.

Jugglers Beware – Find out if you have a hidden talent for juggling – or is fumbling your folly? Try your hand at this fun activity. There could be a new juggler in town.

Circus Shape Creations – Create your own circus artwork using multiple colored shapes. Will your collage turn out to be a lion, a clown or an acrobat?
