Inspired by Scholastic media's top-rated television show "Clifford The Big Red Dog" on PBS KIDS®, this exhibit offers many "paws-on" adventures that reinforce "Clifford's Big Ideas" — ten simple life lessons designed to help young children navigate their world: Share, Play Fair, Have Respect, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe in Yourself, Be a Good Friend and Help Others.
Join Clifford™ and his friends for lots of fun, hands-on activities in this exhibit! Help Victor and Pedro on the ferry and try your hand at "steering." At Samuel's Restaurant, families will need to work together to keep the orders coming! Stock shelves, cook, clean and serve up some delicious fish and chips! Visit Mary at the Musical Marina. There, you can play Clifford's giant Xylobone and drums from around the world.
What's an island without a beach! Chase away the winter blues at T-Bone's beach, where kids can take turns hunting for buried treasure and seashells. Clifford himself is a main attraction. Sit next to Emily Elizabeth on his big red paws or slide down his tail! Learn responsibility by
helping to fill Clifford's dog bowl with bones — lots of bones!
At Emily Elizabeth's Backyard Theater, family members can choose a Clifford video clip and perform along with the show. Dress as your favorite Birdwell Island pup and help tell the story. At the Howard's House, your family can learn how to be a good friend by helping keep the lawn nice and neat.
Our littlest members will love exploring in Cleo's Backyard. This space is designed especially for toddlers, with tunnels, shapes to sort and activity walls. Other family members can join Mr. Carson at the post office, where they can sort and deliver mail to all of the Birdwell Island residents. Need a break from all the action? Curl up with a good book in the Birdwell Island Library.
Did you know Clifford has an Indiana connection? Norman Bridwell, the creator of the Clifford books, grew up in Kokomo, Indiana. He is also an alumnus of Herron School of Art and Design, IUPUI. Browse through his artwork in the Norman Bridwell Art Retrospective and see how Clifford has changed in 40 years (that's 280 dog years!).
Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog will be at the museum for a short time, so be sure to come and visit. After you visit the museum, watch Clifford on local PBS station WFYI TV 20 or visit your local library to check out a Clifford book!
