SIM-CHUNG, THE DEVOTED DAUGHTER
Once upon a time, there lived Sim-Chung who was a very devoted daughter to her blind widowed father. Because they were very poor, she always worried about the meal for her father who loved her very much.

One day a sailor suggested to give her 300 bags of rice, if she sacrificed herself as a ritual offering for the sea god. She accepted the deal for her father. When she jumped into the sea, the sea god saved her and adopted her as his daughter. Although she lived a very pleasant life under the sea, she always worried about her blind father. Therefore, the sea god sent her back to the land as a big water lily. When the king heard about the mysterious water lily on the sea, He ordered his servants to bring it to him. The water lily bloomed in front of the king and out stepped Sim-Chung. Because he came to admire her beauty and story very much, he married her. The king ordered that a banquet be given in the palace for all the blind of the country so that Sim-Chung's father could be found. At the very last moment of the grand banquet, Sim-Chung's father appeared with ragged clothes. Sim-Chung was very pleased and ran to him barefoot. Because he missed her very much, he was eager to see her just once. All of the sudden, he opened his eyes and could see his lovely daughter for the first time! Sim-Chung's devotion for her father had cured his blindness and made her a queen.
