Balance?
Let's look closer. Those vertebrae belong to the giant Apatosaurus,
which did indeed use its tail for balance. Millions of years ago, our ancestors
may have had a tail for the very same reason.
But
today,
of course, we don't need any help to stand on two legs!
Some dinosaurs, on the other hand, used their tail to help them walk on
two legs rather than four.
And we humans do still have our tailbones-like dinosaurs, we need it to hold many important muscles in place.
Some
dinosaurs walked on two feet, some on all four, and a few did some of each.
Compare
this dinosaur's foot with a human foot. What do you think this dinosaur's
foot was good at?
