"To be or not to be: that is the question."
—From Hamlet, William Shakespeare
England, 1500-1600 AD
William Shakespeare is perhaps the best known playwright throughout the world. Many of his plays, including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, continue to be performed today. Shakespeare began as a playwright and actor in 1592, writing plays and performing for a theatre company called "The King's Men." Soon thereafter, it became the biggest and most famous acting company in London.
