What do you call a writer who writes plays?
A playwright of course.
A playwright takes a story or idea he or she wants to share with an audience and plots the action, creates the characters and writes the dialogue.
If a playwright wants an actor to say a line in a certain way, he writes it that way.

Who is the world's most famous playwright?
William Shakespeare.
Shakespeare wrote 37 plays in England in the 1600s. His plays are still being performed today.

What's the big idea?
Ideas for stories are all around us. Shakespeare said, "All the world's a stage." He was right. There are ideas and characters for plays all around us.
Everyday life has dialogue, conflict and action, just like a play. Use your imagination and you can turn an idea into a play.
