School Field Trip Information


School Group Hours
September through February, Tuesday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
March through May, Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Reservations are required for groups of 20 or more people.

Location and Parking
The museum is located at 30th and Meridian streets. Click Here for directions or call (317) 334-3322. The bus loading/unloading area and the entrance are on Illinois Street, one block west of Meridian. After unloading, bus drivers will be directed to a parking location. Parking is free.

Arrival
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to any scheduled programs and 30 minutes prior to any scheduled shows to allow for check-in and seating. Due to safety reasons, late seating is not permitted in the Lilly Theater and SpaceQuest™ Planetarium.

Check In
Please present your confirmation letter and completed Express Check-In Form at the Bus Zone, Box Office or Information Desk. If your group is larger than your reservation, please notify the checkin staff. Some programs may be sold out and unable to accommodate additional guests. The Children’s Museum members are admitted free of charge when appropriate information is provided on your check-in form.

Coats
There is limited space for complimentary coat storage inside the museum. When weather permits, please leave coats in your vehicle/bus.

Payment/Billing
You may pay on the day of your visit or be billed. We accept check, credit card or cash. To ensure a quick check-in please do not pay with small bills and coins. No adjustments will be made to your bill after you leave the museum. Catered lunch payments must be paid separately to Sodexo Services catering office (317) 334-3213.

Group Visit Name Tags
Please distribute the enclosed Group Visit Name Tags before exiting your vehicle. These stickers will serve as your admission tickets and are required for entrance.

Dinosphere: Now You’re In Their World
Reservations Required
All school groups will be required to have a reservation to visit Dinosphere. Group reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance and will not be accepted on the day of your trip. If you are interested in visiting Dinosphere with your group but do not have a timed reservation listed on your confirmation letter, please contact the Customer Service Center immediately to schedule a time. PLEASE NOTE: reservations spaces are limited and subject to availabilty.

Check Out
All teachers are encouraged to stop by the school check-out area in the Welcome Center on Level 1 before leaving the museum. You will be asked to fill out a quick evaluation of your visit. You will also receive student handouts!

Lunch
Sack Lunch Area, Level 2 Advance reservations are required. Each group is allowed 25 minutes for their scheduled lunchtime. Limited seating is available. Sack lunches can be stored indoors. Please bring lunches in a box labeled with your school name, grade and teacher name. At check-in, you will be directed where to store your lunches. PLEASE NOTE: REFRIGERATION IS NOT AVAILABLE. An outdoor picnic area is also available on a firstcome, first-served basis. Catered Lunches, Level 1, Food Court Reservations and deposits required. The Children’s Museum Store
This interactive store is located on Level 1 in the Welcome Center and has a vast assortment of educational merchandise that reflects museum exhibits. For information about pre-ordering souvenirs for your students, please contact our personal shopper at (317) 334-3219.

Special Needs
Provisions include a sidewalk ramp, restroom facilities and electric carts. The Carousel and all exhibits except the tool car and log cabin are accessible. If you have special needs, call (317) 334-4000 prior to your visit. Our TDD number is (317) 920-2020. A limited number of complimentary wheelchairs are available at the Coat Check. Lost Children/ Medical and Safety Emergencies Red emergency telephones are located on each level. In case of a lost child or a medical or safety emergency, go to the phone nearest you and pick up the handset. The phone will auto-dial the museum’s Safety and Security Department. The Children’s Museum will page only in the case of a medical emergency.
