Edible Cell Pudding Cup
Learn more about cellular structure by making your own cell that you can eat! Be creative and pick different foods to represent the different organelles. The cell membrane, the outside boundary of the cell, could be the plastic cup. Have the students bring in their favorite candies: some fun, edible ideas for organelles include circus peanuts for the mitochondria; sprinkles for the ribosomes; long, stringy licorice for the endoplasmic reticulum; M&Ms for the vacuoles and of course the pudding for the cytoplasm. When you have finished creating your edible cell, talk about what each organelle does and why it is important for the survival of the cell. You could also make an edible cell cookie or cell pizza!
