Science
8.1.1 Recognize that and describe how scientific knowledge is subject to modification as new information challenges prevailing theories and as a new theory leads to looking at old observations in a new way.

Before entering Dinosphere have your students think about what they learned about dinosaurs 5 years ago. Was there any discussion about them being related to birds or reptiles? Have them keep this in mind as they wander through the gallery. Have them look for things which are considered "new scientific" information on the topic. After your visit, talk about these recent finding as a group and remind them that science is always changing and challenging old observations with new findings.

Language Arts
8.7.1 Paraphrase (restate) a speaker's purpose and point of view and ask questions concerning the speaker's content, delivery, and attitude toward the subject.

Let your students know that after they are done with listening to a presentation, that they will be required to summarize what was said. Then, after joining an Up-Close and Personal, have the students share what they learned and discuss how the speaker delivered the presentation, the content and his or her attitude toward the subject matter.

8.7.8 Evaluate the credibility of a speaker, including whether the speaker has hidden agendas or presents slanted or biased material.

After hearing an Up-Close and Personal presentation, have the students evaluate the presenter. How would the person's job or setting, slant the material provided. How could they find out more about the presenters credibility?

8.7.9 Interpret and evaluate the various ways in which visual image-makers (such as graphic artists, illustrators, and news photographers) communicate information and affect impressions and opinions.

Have the students really spend some time evaluating and investigating the graphic displays in the gallery. Come back together and discuss the ways that the people who have created these displays can affect their audiences. Is their work important in the way it communicates information to people?
