Science
| K.1.1 |
Raise questions about the natural world.
Dinosaurs naturally spark children's curiosity. Encourage them to ask questions about the dinosaurs. |
| |
| K.1.2 |
Begin to demonstrate that everybody can do science.
Some of the dinosaurs found in Dinosphere were discovered by a variety of people of all ages, including some young children of family. Be sure to look for their stories in the gallery. Remind your students that they, too, can be paleontologists. |
| |
| K.4.1 |
Give examples of plants and animals.
After going through the space, children will be able to give some examples of plants and animals that lived in the Cretaceous period. Help remind them that most of the animals are now extinct and aren't around anymore. However, many of the plants, like the ferns and Gingko's are still around today. |
| |
| K.4.2 |
Observe plants and animals, describing how they are alike and how they are different in the way they look and in the things they do.
By observing the different skeletons in their "settings", the students can compare and contrast the different kinds of dinosaurs. Have them pay close attention to their teeth, claws, and size. Recreations of plants are also available for students to observe and describe. |
| |
| K.6.1 |
Describe an object by saying how it is similar to or different from another object.
Use the variety of hands-on fossils to allow the children to make comparisons between them. |
Language Arts
| K.1.3 |
Understand that printed materials provide information.
Encourage the children to look at the labels in the gallery to find out more information on what they are looking at. |
| |
| K.1.21 |
Identify common signs and symbols.
Help the children to recognize some common signs and symbols used in the gallery space. |
| |
| K.2.2 |
Use picture clues and context to aid comprehension and to make predictions about story content.
Help the children to use the displays and scenes to figure out what is said in the text. |
| |
| K.7.2 |
Share information and ideas, speaking in complete, coherent sentences.
Ask the children to share what they have learned about dinosaurs. |
| |
| K.7.3 |
Describe people, places, things (including their size, color, and shape), locations, and actions.
Your senses are stimulated in Dinosphere. Allow the children to describe some of the things that they see, smell and hear while they are there. Encourage the use of descriptive language. |
