The Children’s Museum Partners with Sodexo and Gordon Food Service to Feed Thousands of Local Youngsters

While 21 million kids rely on free and reduced-price lunches during the school year, less than 3 million continue to receive meals during the summer, which equates to six out of seven children that will go hungry this summer because they do not have access to a meal program.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis does not want any child to go hungry and is helping bridge the summer gap providing 10,000 meals to local children by participating in Sodexo’s  “Feeding Our Future®” program.

Sodexo, the food service provider for the museum, will coordinate with local community organizations to provide lunches for several hundred children five days a week from June 11-August 17. Volunteers from The Children’s Museum, Sodexo and Gordon’s Food Service donate their time to prepare and package the daily meals of sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, snacks and drinks.

“The health and welfare of our children is always important.  Without healthy nutritious meals children cannot thrive and learn, let alone enjoy summer break opportunities like trips to the museum,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “We are grateful Sodexo is continuing with this national program and we are proud to help implement it locally.”

Since 2011, Sodexo’s Feeding Our Future program has served more than 21,000 summer meals to youth from low-income households in Indianapolis. This summer, Feeding Our Future is estimated to provide 400,000 meals to children across 24 U.S. cities, and is made possible in Indianapolis by a grant from Sodexo Foundation, the anti-hunger charitable arm of Sodexo, Inc. with support from Gordon Food Service.  Learn more about the summer feeding program at www.SodexoFoundaion.org.
