Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience Receives National Recognition

Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience is proud to be honored by the Aspen Institute’s Project Play initiative as a 2021 Project Play Champion in recognition of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ commitment to health and fitness through sports.

Project Play honors a select number of national organizations annually who are taking new, meaningful and specific actions consistent with Project Play’s strategies for youth sports.

“We’re proud to highlight our 2021 Project Play Champions, exemplar organizations working to provide high-quality sport and play opportunities for young people across the country,” said Tom Farrey, Executive Director for the Aspen Institute’s Sports and Society Program. “Each organization’s commitment to a meaningful action aligned with our 8 Plays will both increase the quantity and quality of sport opportunities.”

“We are honored to join such a prestigious group of respected teams and organizations that believe in developing and nurturing athletic activity so that families improve their health, enjoy sports and learn life lessons along the way,” said Caleb Bailey, director, Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “Our goal is to encourage children and their grownups to look past the final score of a game and enjoy being active together in non-competitive ways. Our trained coaches help teach life lessons like having a positive attitude, persistence, setting goals, respecting and encouraging each other. If you do those things, you can create life skills and healthy habits that can last a lifetime.”

“Children need safe spaces to get outside and play to support their emotional and physical health,” said Dr. Elaine Cox, chief medical officer at Riley Children’s Health. “We are thrilled to see the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis recognized for being the fun space in our community that allows kids of all ages to grow up well.”

Launched in 2013, the Aspen Institute’s Project Play develops, applies and shares knowledge that helps build healthy communities through sports. Project Play works with leading organizations to develop and share best practices and solutions to foster quality sports activity for all youth, regardless of zip code or ability.

Project Play Champions are recognized each year at the Project Play Summit, the nation’s premier annual gathering of leaders at the intersection of youth, sport and health. The 2021 Project Play Summit will be a virtual event on October 19-20 and you can learn more at as.pn/ppsummit
