A Unique Opportunity
If you are an ambitious 13- to 18-year-old who loves exciting projects and working in the community, our Museum Apprentice Program might just be for you! Take part in one-of-a-kind experiences and become a member of our extraordinary team.
You’ll work closely with staff, teachers, adult volunteers, and other youth participants on projects that relate directly to exhibits, public events, and neighborhood development initiatives.
So What Makes MAP Different?
MAP is a year-round, project-based program which focuses on museum education, civic engagement and leadership development. Teens are also encouraged to participate as volunteers during public events at the museum and work with staff on independent projects in our Paleontology Prep Lab, Archaeology Lab, and Biotech Learning Center.
Apprentices commit to:
- A minimum of two days at the museum each month (approximately 6 hours a month) during the fall and spring semesters. Meetings take place one Saturday and one Wednesday evening per month.
- Participating in Saturday meetings and field trips during the summer months. (June and July)
Candidates for the Museum Apprentice Program should be:
- Eager and willing to learn, participate and contribute.
- Open and excited to work alongside people of different backgrounds, cultures, and personalities.
- Interested in community development and civic engagement, especially within an urban setting.
- Curious, inquisitive and creative.
- Proactive, passionate and hard working.

REX: Real voices. EXtraordinary ideas.
In May 2015, some members of the MAPS program participated in our speaking event REX: Real voices. EXtraordinary ideas. It was an evening of insightful talks. This inaugural event featured performers, artists, and speakers collaborating to share big ideas and fresh perspectives on a variety of topics, from personal experiences to local initiatives.
