First Annual SpeedFest at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hop on the fast track to fun with a high-octane day of racing and speed-themed games and activities.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis hosts the first annual SpeedFest on May 21, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience®.

Compete in the mini 500 in honor of four-time Indy 500 winner and Old National Bank Sports Legend A.J. Foyt. Racers of all ages will be able to qualify like the pros as they compete in one of six age groups. Those age groups are 5 & under, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17 & 18 and up.

Legends-in-training will start qualifying on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Pedal Car Racetrack at 11 a.m. with the four fastest times by age group qualifying to move on to the big race.

Have cameras and smart phones ready to take pictures. After lunch, families can click away during driver introductions filled with plenty of pomp & circumstance. After the playing of Back Home Again in Indiana, the museum’s favorite dinosaur Rex will wave the green flag.

Imagine the look on the little racers faces when they step up on the checkered podium, wear the victory wreath and receive their trophies.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Behind every great driver is a great crew. Grownups are encouraged to bring their kids to the Pitstop Challenge at 2 p.m.  This will be a fun challenge where families will work together in a timed experience to finish a full pitstop and get back on the track and recreate the iconic 1961 Indy 500 where A.J. Foyt won his first Indy 500.

There will also be plenty of off-track activities themed around speed including a
racing inspired musical chairs game at the Indiana Pacers/Fever Basketball experience. Or, race against the clock in the Indianapolis Colts Football Experience by making a pass and then slashing through the gridiron gauntlet to score a touchdown! Soccer fans can work on their soccer skills to see if they can keep their car on the track and avoid sending it to Gasoline Alley.

Kids Riding Bikes will be here with their racing simulator! Golf Instructors from First Tee will be on the replica Brickyard Crossing #10 hole running a closest to the pin challenge with prizes!

One lucky person will win tower terrace tickets to the 500.
