Accessibility Services at The Children's Museum
At The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, we have an unwavering commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring everyone—regardless of background or ability—feels represented, welcome, and empowered during their visit. Here are some of the ways we strive to make our museum accessible to all.
Barrier-Free Access
From the parking garage to the Carousel, our facility is accessible for visitors who use mobility devices.- All levels of the museum are accessible by ramps and elevators
- Most areas of the museum and the outdoor sports experience are barrier free—here are only a handful of less accessible areas due to the historic nature or natural habitat of certain artifacts
- Both the parking garage and the Water Clock surface lot have designated accessible parking spaces
- Every level of the museum has elevator access and a large ramp connects all five levels
Wheelchairs and Mobility
- "Adult" and "youth" wheelchairs are available to borrow at no charge in the Welcome Center
- “Adult” and “youth” sized sport wheelchairs are available outside in the Riley Children's Health Sports Legends Experience®
- All Lilly Theater performances have wheelchair seating available
- Accommodations can be made for visitors with disabilities who wish to ride our Carousel—it is accessible for visitors who use wheelchairs
- Transportation to and from your vehicle by golf cart can be arranged
Restrooms
Our most accessible restrooms are located in the Welcome Center, Sunburst Atrium, Lower Level, Level 2, Playscape®, and The Kohler Pavilion outside.
A height-adjustable adult-size changing table is located in one of the Family Restrooms in Dinosphere®.
Sensory Items Available to Borrow
If you forget an item, we have you covered. Fidgets and noise-reducing headphones are available to check out from the Concierge Desk located on Level 1. Fidgets, noise-reducing headphones, and small weighted blankets are also available for use in Lilly Theater.

Museum My Way
Museum My Way is an opportunity for visitors with disabilities and/or sensory sensitivities to experience the museum in a new way with limited capacity, edited sounds and lighting in some areas, and more. Families and groups of all abilities are welcome to play and learn together!
Adaptive Outdoor Sports Equipment
From tennis balls with bells and streamers to a hand cycle wheelchair attachment, our outdoor sports wonderland is full of “my-sized” and adaptive sports equipment so everyone can get into the action. When the play is better, the day is better!
