Do I have to buy museum admission for my guests?

Admission to the museum is required for all party attendees. The All-Inclusive party will include 15 admission tickets for any attendees ages 2 and older. Museum members receive free admission with a valid member card. Additional discount admission tickets for all nonmember party guests are $18 and must be purchased in advance. Admission tickets are kept at the Box Office day of party.

How many people am I allowed to have at the party?

A maximum of 25 guests are allowed per party room due to COVID-19 precautions. All guests (including the birthday child and family, and adults) count toward the 25  guests. Want more than 25 guests? You can rent a second Birthday Party room.

What can I add to my party?

Depending on which party package you select, choose to add any of these ala carte options to make your party even more extraordinary.

  • Cake—$70+
    Personalized and themed cake that serves 20.
  • Pizza or snacks—prices vary
    Our event caterers can provide some tasty selections. Download a menu.
  • Plates, cups, forks, napkins—$1 per person
    Choose from one of our many themes, including: dinosaurs, trains, princesses, carousel, racing, Under the Sea, and pirates.
  • Additional guests
    Parties of more than 10 (but less than 20) attendees, can rent both our party rooms for $300 ($150 per room). Extra fee for decor.

Can we bring our own cake, food, beverages, decorations, or party favors?

You may also choose to bring your own store/bakery-purchased cake. No outside food is permitted, beyond a cake. You may bring your own decorations or party favors. Keep in mind that balloons are not allowed in the museum, and tape cannot be used to hang decorations.

Do kids have to be accompanied by adults?

All guests under the age of 18 must be escorted by an adult while at the museum. There is a minimum of 1 adult per 3 minors requirement for all birthday parties in the museum. Parents dropping off children must make arrangements in advance with the party host.

When can I host a party?

Birthday parties may be held on Saturday or Sunday in one of the following time slots:

10:30 a.m.–noon
12:30–2 p.m.
3:30–5 p.m.

Signature parties may be held at 9 a.m. or 3:30 p.m.

If you would like to book the Birthday Party room for more than 90 minutes or if you have more than 10 guests, you can book a second room for $150 per extra 90-minute slot.

What does it include if I add on an exhibit space?

For an additional $500, your group gets exclusive access to one exhibit of your choosing for one hour before the museum opens to the public. This party includes everything in the Basic Party, plus it allows birthday party hosts and their guests to privately explore a gallery in the world's largest children's museum. All parties have a 7% sales tax. Choose from:

Arrival Procedures

Please park in the museum’s free adjoined parking garage or any of our additional lots located on Illinois Street. The party host should check-in at the Box Office in the Welcome Center. Admission tickets for guests can also be picked up at this location. Admission tickets can be distributed to guests in advance or upon arrival. Birthday party hosts and guests can explore the museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. no matter what time the party starts. Admission tickets or valid membership is required to enter the museum. The party host may arrive at the Birthday Party room 15 minutes prior to the reserved time slot to set up. Guests will not have access to the room until the party start time.

After your party, your Birthday Party Coordinator will provide you with a cart that will be stored at Equipment Rentals while you explore the museum. You may also leave the museum to store items in your vehicle; simply keep your admission ticket for return entrance.

Birthday Party Rooms

The rooms are located near the Concierge Desk on Level 1. There is a large throne in the corner of each room. You may bring additional decorations for your party. Keep in mind that balloons are not allowed in the museum, and tape cannot be used to hang decorations.

Payment and Cancellation
Your room fee is due upon booking of the party and is nonrefundable/nontransferable. Party needs to be paid for before your scheduled event so we can have your tickets ready at the Box Office on the day of your party. In the event of a cancellation, your $150 deposit will be forfeited.
