GUEST SCIENTIST From Microbes to Medicines (Grades 6-8)

In-person
60 minutes
Tuesday, April 23, 2024
9:45 a.m. | 11 a.m. | 12:15 p.m.

In this lab led by guest scientists from Purdue University, students will get to explore the bacteria that live in their own backyards. They will gather soil to bring to the museum, isolate the bacteria that live in the soil, and plate it on petri dishes using proper scientific procedures. If they are lucky, they might even discover bacteria that make novel antibiotics! Take cultured petri dishes back to class and observe their growth. Teachers can schedule an optional virtual follow-up with museum educators to discuss results.
