A First Look at Playscape's All-New Water Table

A First Look at Playscape's All-New Water Table

October 2026 · Back to stories

Our team has been hard at work installing the new water table and updating other features inside Playscape®. We’re excited for our youngest visitors to their beloved exhibit when it reopens Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at some of the changes you may (or may not) notice when it reopens.

New Water Table

Concept art of the new water table feature.

Boss Display, based in Columbus, OH, has built an all-new water table with greater accessibility and new interactive features. The completely redesigned water table takes its inspiration from Indiana waterways and includes three main areas—cave, stream, and pond—along with movable toys for pretend play, a trickling waterfall, water painting, tipping water birds, and springs and currents that activate at the turn of a wheel or the touch of a button.

What will you and your child draw?

In this video from Boss Display's fabrication shop, you can see how the new water painting feature operates:

In addition to the incredible new water table, you may notice these other improvements and adjustments to our youngest visitors' favorite exhibit:

  • New furniture and updated decor in the family room to help make it a more comfortable space
  • Refreshed fidget board wall
  • New interactive elements in the sand table
  • Some flooring and carpeting replacements
  • Mechanical improvements to the Reaction Contraption
  • Exhibit-wide deep clean
  • New bilingual labels

Playscape Reopens Nov. 7, 2026

We can't wait to welcome our littlest fans (and their families) to our exhibit that was created just for them! Included with museum admission, Playscape® is exclusively for our guests who are 5 and under. Older children who are with those young guests are welcome to act as helpers.

If you're visiting before the exhibit reopens, be sure to check out our Parent's Guide to Early Learning Fun. It provides a list of many other magical things you can do with your young child during this temporary closure.
