Creating Accessible Exhibits

Accessible Exhibits Toolkit

This toolkit shares the collective work of the museum’s Dinosphere® exhibition development team, plus refinements made as staff developed a range of other exhibitions in subsequent years. The tools presented here highlight accessibility needs in the early planning stages of exhibitions, making sure accessibility is “baked in” as early as the conceptual planning stage. We hope sharing our processes and tools with other museum professionals will result in more accessible exhibitions for children and families at museums everywhere!

A child using a wheelchair and an adult view a touchscreen outside the Power of Children exhibit. The adult is crouching down to the child’s level and points to the screen.
Two adults and a child using a walker play with a toddler-size interactive in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse exhibit. The child holds two balls while one adult points where to put the balls so they can go down a track.
