The World’s Largest Children’s Museum Ranks in the Top Ten of Four Major National Lists

When a national media outlet calls out your museum saying it is a must-see attraction for the whole family, it is humbling and gratifying. When two national media outlets agree that The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the place to be, it is amazing. When three national media outlets say The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is one of the must see attractions in 2019, you pinch yourself to make sure you’re not imagining it. When four national media outlets say The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is one of the best, it is time to bring out the band, throw your hat in the air and celebrate something truly extraordinary!

Due in large part to the opening of the 7.5-acre Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience, Lonely Planet listed The Children’s Museum as one of the best new attractions for kids from around the world in 2019. The article reads, “This immersive experience encompasses health education, physical fitness and sports history for an active day out.”

MSN.com listed the best attraction to visit in each state of the United States and picked The Children’s Museum as Indiana’s top spot saying, “Families can learn about the children who changed the world, from Anne Frank to Ruby Bridges, explore massive dinosaur fossils and be mesmerized by the 43-foot blown-glass sculpture by American artist Dale Chihuly.”

Reader’s Digest followed suit by sharing its own list of the best winter destinations to visit in each state and selected The Children’s Museum as one of the state’s must-see cultural attractions saying, “the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, ranked the best family museum in the country.”

And just in, USAToday/10Best selected The Children’s Museum and Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience as one of the best new attractions to visit this year. Nominations were carefully made by an expert panel, and then the public voted. Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience at The Children’s Museum was ranked number four in the country!

“I am grateful to our 1.25 million visitors each year who believe in our mission and choose to spend quality time with their families here. At the same time, I am incredibly proud of our staff and volunteers who are committed to creating extraordinary experiences that educate and entertain. No detail is too small and no goal is too big for our team,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum. “Their commitment and hard work is seen each and every day on the jubilant faces of the children and families who have enjoyed transformative experiences as a result of their visit here.”

Patchen went on to commend the museum’s many sponsors who make all of its amazing exhibits possible including the lead sponsor of Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience, “When it comes to health and fitness through the lens of sport, these accomplishments could not have been reached without the health and medical experts we have at Riley Children’s at Indiana University Health.”

”Riley Children’s Health is proud to partner with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on this important and notable project. It’s more important than ever that we stress the pediatric health in the state of Indiana. One way we can do this is to teach families the importance of play. We are thankful to help give children an accessible and fun place to be active - through the Sports Legend Experience. Riley, along with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, will continue to fight childhood obesity, heart disease and diabetes - through play,” said Dr. Paul Haut, Riley Children’s Health chief operating officer.
