Off to the Races with Your Access Pass

May is finally here and so is the Indy 500! Even if you don’t have tickets to the races, there is still so much happening in and around the state.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

Fuel your passion for racing all year long! The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is open 363 days a year. You can experience the full thrill of the Indianapolis 500 this May.

The museum is located inside the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) oval, nestled between Turns 1 and 2. Access to Museum Parking is free except during Speedway events, when IMS requires tickets or credentials to access the facility. Simply enter the grounds through Gate 2 at the four-lane tunnel on westbound 16th Street.

Start your pedals! May means racing in Indy—and at The Children’s Museum where the outdoors sports area transforms into a racing wonderland in SpeedFest. Mark your calendars and plan on zooming to the museum for a day of high-energy racing-themed activities. Don’t forget to race for the Tony Stewart Trophy in the 2nd running of the Foyt 500!

Gather your family and friends and come out and enjoy the AES 500 Festival Parade! This year’s theme, Fueling May, will get you pumped to join a community of fans lining the streets of downtown Indianapolis to experience the larger-than-life floats, giant helium balloons, celebrities and dignitaries, award-winning bands, and all 33 drivers competing in the Indy 500, to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Juneteenth Jamboree

Join The Children's Museum of Indianapolis for a time of reflection and community celebration of freedom, with the Juneteenth Jamboree. Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day. Be part of the table top activities, participate in the Community Marketplace, and check out the performing and visual artists!

May is also a time for wonderful art! Fort Wayne Museum of Art will be presenting Miró in New York, 1947: Miró, Hayter and Atelier 17, an exhibition of prints by American and émigré artists working at the legendary printmaking workshop: Atelier 17. You will also be able to enjoy the works of Stanley William Hayter, Yves Tanguy, Fred Becker, Gabor Peterdi and Minna Citron, among others.

It’s not too early to plan for June’s entertainment. The iconic whimsical tale by Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will close Indianapolis Ballet’s 2022–23 season. From fairies to a spell-bound donkey, you will surely be captivated by this wondrous ballet! Other works, such as Victoria Lyras’ timeless piece Bolero, will also be featured in this production for a mixed repertoire evening full of fabulous dancing.
