Release Form

In the case that your project is selected as a winner for The Power of Children Awards, staff will be requesting photographs of your project in action. These photos could be you doing your project, others helping accomplish an activity for your project, or those benefitting from your project.

In order for the museum to be able to use those images in creating videos and promotions it will need all images that include other individuals to be accompanied by a signed release of likeness. There are a number of websites that explain the legal reasons why you may need to get a photograph, video, or audio release of likeness. We encourage you to do your own research on this topic for the most detailed explanation, but the most basic explanation is that everyone has the right to protect the way they are represented.

If you take a photo of someone as part of your project and then use that image to promote your project you need to make sure that anyone who can be identified is ok with that purpose and gives you permission. They have the right to say no and not want to be identified for your project’s promotion. If the image/audio is of a minor, the adult-guardian MUST sign the contract instead. By taking this precaution you will save yourself the trouble of a possible lawsuit at a future date. There are many variations of release forms online, we have included a basic one that the museum would ask you to use for your project should you win.
