ScienceWorks Top 10—STEMLab and SciencePort

Note: SciencePort is currently closed to the public.

If you’re feeling the pressure to pursue a career in science, and you’re only like, eight years old, don’t fret! At the STEMLab and SciencePort, you can try lots of programs to find the scientific role fit for you. Located within the reinvented Dow AgroSciences ScienceWorks, the STEMLab and SciencePort provide opportunities for visitors to be a part of in-depth, instructor-led lessons on topics in science, technology, engineering, and—you guessed it—math!

STEMLab programs include hands-on learning opportunities led by our science educators as well as first-person interactive shows from our actor/interpreters! For instance, in the program Out of this World Engineering, families can learn how NASA uses the engineering process to create items being used on the International Space Station today! Drop-in preschool programs will also be available at certain points throughout the day for your tiny, aspiring scientists.

The lab will provide opportunities for children and families to build science process and engineering design skills relevant to the 21st century. Whether your budding scientist is interested in cells, space, or robots, there will be something for everyone! Be on the lookout for these topics in the STEMLab throughout the year:

  • DNA Extraction
  • The Germination of Plants
  • Cell Modeling
  • DNA modeling
  • Cave Formation
  • Insects and Invasive Species
  • Robotics
  • Gravity
  • Science in Space

Activities in the SciencePort are self-guided, with programs focusing on multimedia and digital learning. Visitors of all ages can try their hand at robotics, coding, and grand, digital microscopes! Look out for these recurring themes in SciencePort throughout the year:

  • Robotics
  • Watersheds
