The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis partners with MCCOY, Summer Youth Program Fund to Celebrate National Summer Learning Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 15, 2023) – The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is thrilled to partner with the Marion County Commission on Youth (MCCOY) to celebrate National Summer Learning Day on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. More than 500 youth from 21 organizations in Marion County will participate in the event that takes place in the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Summer Learning Day recognizes the important role summer programs play in helping Indianapolis youth continue learning throughout the summer in preparation for the upcoming school year. Students have the   opportunity to play, read, explore, create and develop their own interests.

“Summer Learning Day is an opportunity for our entire city to acknowledge and celebrate the essential role youth programs play in the development of our children and youth,” said John Brandon, president and executive director of MCCOY. “Memories made and knowledge gained through Indy Summer Youth Programs will make a lifetime of impact on our community’s young people, and MCCOY is thrilled to recognize that impact with a day of fun and celebration at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.”

MCCOY and all the participating Indy Summer Youth Programs are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Summer Youth Program Fund, which consists of nine Marion County philanthropic organizations.

Leah Nahmias, community leadership officer for The Indianapolis Foundation, said, “The Summer Youth Program Fund partners are proud to support more than 220 programs in 2023, serving more than 50,000 Marion County youth, so that kids and teens have a chance to learn, play, lead, and explore our city. Summer is the time for hands-on, out-of-the-ordinary experiences that make learning fun and memorable. The funding community is grateful to MCCOY, The Children's Museum and so many others who keep kids safe, engaged, and happy during the summer months.”

“The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is proud to partner with MCCOY and the Summer Youth Program Fund to celebrate National Summer Learning Day,” said Jennifer Pace Robinson, CEO of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “A big part of our mission is to provide a safe place for our youth to learn about the arts, sciences, humanities, sports and so much more.”

The Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience provides a great place for participating youth to get outside and have fun. Local professional athlete and Indiana’s 2016 Mr. Basketball, Kyle Guy, is leading an initiative called “Hometown Heroes,” in an effort to connect with youth and get them excited about the future. “Not only is it important to continue learning throughout the summer, but it is important for kids to stay active. I am excited to have the opportunity to share my basketball skills with area youth and hopefully inspire them to reach for the stars,” said Guy.
