Go Green with The Children’s Museum on Earth Day!

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 16, 2024) - Join The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on April 20, 2024 in celebration of the largest environmental civic movement in the world, Earth Day. It happens on April 22, 2024. The holiday was first celebrated in 1970. Earth Day is meant for motivating people across 192 countries to learn sustainable ways to go green and protect the globe for generations to come. Learn from local leaders of environmental protection at the museum through these programs:

Sunburst Atrium

  • Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization: Learn about the Central Indiana Environmental Action Plan.
  • Indianapolis Department of Public Works: Explore how to protect our waterways by learning more about stormwater.
  • CIRTA Commuter Connect (Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority): Using cars and trucks, see how carpooling helps with air quality and traffic congestion.
  • ACEC Indiana (American Council of Engineering Companies): Make and test a water filtration system to see if you can clean the water.
  • Indiana Soybean Alliance: Stop by to create your own soybean necklace. Watch the seed germinate then plant it in your very own garden!
  • 80 Acres Farms: Experience hydroponic farming and learn how 80 Acres Farms is growing the future of food!
  • SWE IUPUI: Investigate weather and the water cycle with a fun experiment.
  • Plastic Pickup: Escape a maze while cleaning up different types of plastics and identifying which part of the 5 R's of recycling they belong to!
  • Nature Appreciation: Explore the creativeness of nature and spark curiosity through various approaches to learning more about the natural environment that Earth holds.
  • Giveaway: Enjoy soy crayons courtesy of Indiana Soybean Alliance. While supplies last.

"We are hosting new organizations this year that highlight the local efforts surrounding the day by local communities, which is honestly very exciting to see,” said Morgan Hoffman, sustainability and youth programs manager, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. She has led the efforts to invite local organizations to provide a new Earth Day experience for visitors who may have visited the museum during past celebrations.
