The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Ranks on USA TODAY’S “The 20 Most Visited Museums ” List

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is one of the top 20 most visited museums in North America, according to a new list published in USA TODAY TRAVEL.

Data for the ranking was provided by Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) which noted that The Children’s Museum welcomed 1,210,000 visitors in 2014. In fact, the museum has been visited by more than 1.2 million visitors each of the last four years. The American Alliance of Museums lists 17,500 museums in the United States, making a top 20 ranking particularly noteworthy.

The Children’s Museum ranks second in North American museum visitation relative to its Designated Market Area (DMA), which is significantly smaller than other metropolitan areas featured on a list provided by the Global Attractions Attendance Report and Demographic World Urban Areas May 2014 edition. In that context, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis ranks second only to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, DC in terms of local and regional visitation.

“It is thrilling and humbling to know that people choose to visit our world-class museum just as they choose to visit other renowned art, science and history focused museums in the largest cities in North America,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum. “We take great pride in providing families and children with fresh, rich, compelling, and highly interactive content in the sciences, arts and humanities.”
